This fall, SPOKE! will be hosted by HBO-featured poet Dahlak Brathwaite. Dahlak is an award-winning playwright, composer, and performer. His work has been presented at The Smithsonian, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Apollo Theater, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, REDCAT, The Public Theater, SXSW, and on HBO’s last two seasons of Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry. His trilogy of dramatic works (Spiritrials, Try/Step/Trip, and Adapting History) has received support from New England Foundation of the Arts, MAP Fund, and the U.S. State Department. He is currently an MFA student at NYU’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Dahlak will lead a virtual meeting once a month, where attendees will be welcomed to share, and special guests will perform and speak about their artistic process.
