Escape from social media, power down your phones, and get ready to reconnect to the great outdoors with Sonoma State’s Outdoor Pursuits program.
It can be hard trying to maintain the summer body you've been working for prior to summer starting. Especially when it's hot outside and your mind has turned into relaxation mode and all you really want to do is drink smoothies/milkshakes, eat ice cream and take advantage of all your favorite food places in your hometown while you can. While you can still do all of these things, here are some tips on staying active during the summer in some fun ways.
Play a sport, or learn a new one.
Try out beach volleyball or ultimate frisbee! Take advantage of being at the beach and remember to bring a ball or disk to throw around with your friends.
Start warming up to the outdoors with walking, biking and hiking.
These 3 mentioned can become fun routine activities at any time of day. Get up early to hike and see the sun rise, or bike to your favorite spot to watch the sun set.
Eat your fruits and veggies.
Check out your local farmers market for a fun way to purchase fruits and veggies every week!
Drink a lot of water.
Believe it or not, drinking water and staying hydrated actually helps with weight loss. Water is essential to your body--especially in the summer sun! Research all the benefits of water to motivate you even more.
Know exactly what you're going to eat that day and make it convenient to grab. Don't skip cooking a healthy meal for yourself just because your day is too crazy! Make it in advance when you have time and you will thank yourself later.
Ditch the soda.
Skip all the sugar and start easing into drinking sparkling water instead. There are some delicious fruity flavored sparkling waters at your local grocery stores that are healthier for your diet. Plus you can add in some fresh fruit to add even more flavor!
Swim when you can.
You're more than likely going to have unlimited to access to some kind of pool this summer whether it be a friends pool, your gyms pool, or a family members pool. Take advantage of this and take a dip in the pool to swim a few laps. Water workouts are great for you and for staying active!
Drive by the Drive Thru.
It might be hard to drive by that McDonalds or Taco Bell that seems like it's calling your name. But it's not, well not all the time, and sometimes you gotta remind yourself that you can always cook something at home for free and that will make your body happier.
Take the Stairs.
As much as you want to take that escalator or elevator to wherever your going, keep an active mindset and take the stairs instead. You'll start getting in the habit of this when you do, and it will be a quick mini workout for your body when you take them!
Don't take yourself too seriously and enjoy your summer!
