Getting Through the Mid-Semester Slump

The holidays are coming, the days are shorter, all of the good movies are on TV again...all this adds up to make it really difficult to focus on classes. First things first, know that you're not alone. It's totally normal to lose motivation sometimes. Here are some tips that can help you get through the infamous mid-semester slump.

Reward Yourself
We've said it before and we'll say it again. Have homework you need to get finished? Promise yourself a reward after you finish it. It can be small, just something to acknowledge that you got your work done. We're big fans of letting yourself zone out in front of Netflix for a little while after getting through a tough project. We suggest throwing on a classic Halloween masterpiece, Hocus Pocus!

Share the Responsibilities
It can be tough to be swamped with not only school work but house work too. Now is the perfect time to check in with your roommates and make sure that everyone is pulling their weight when it comes to taking care of the dorm/apartment/house.

Make Plans
Making plans for your holiday break might seem like it would just make you sad but it can actually have the opposite effect and give you something to look forward to. After all, a 5 page report doesn't seem so bad if you know you're going to Disneyland for the Holidays (just a suggestion...)

Take It One Step at a Time
When you sit down to look at all the work you have to do, it can be overwhelming and most of the time just becomes you giving up on everything. So take all of the projects that you have to do and break them up into smaller pieces. This will make them feel more manageable and you'll feel like you're getting more done when you can cross off each piece.
