February 18, 2015, Rohnert Park, CA — Sonoma State University’s Career Services department premiered its first large scale drop-in resume event on February 11th. Situated in the center of Salazar Quad, the Career Services Coordinator, Ann Mansfield, worked alongside the Job Location Development (JLD) team to put on a successful and engaging event for the students of SSU.
More than 80 students dropped by between 11:00AM and 2:00PM to have local professionals review their resume and provide them with tips on how to make sure their resume best represents themselves before applying for their next job or internship. Ten employers from a variety of local business, including Target, Exchange Bank, and Jackson Family Wines, generously dedicated three hours of their busy day to help students edit and improve their resumes.
In addition to the 80 students who had their resumes reviewed, countless others dropped by to ask for tips on navigating the upcoming Career Fair, information about employers attending the Fair, and general information about the department’s services and events. After the event ended at 2:00PM, motivated students continued to drop into the Career Center looking for advice on their resumes and professional development tips.
The timely event was put on to help students prepare for the Career Fair, giving them two weeks to dust off their resume or create one for the first time, and help them feel ready to take advantage of the opportunity to approach over 100 employers regarding potential job, internship, and volunteer opportunities at the Career Fair.
