On February 25th Sonoma State University's Career Services put on one of the largest, most categorically diverse career fairs in the history of the event. With employers specializing in everything from environmental nonprofit work and hospitality to wine and law enforcement, there was a company or organization for almost every major.
The student and employer feedback was outstanding. Several attendees have reported that they were called for follow-up interviews with several companies who attended the fair and a few students were offered internships on the spot. The 2015 Career Fair received an exceptionally high approval rating from the employers who participated. Rebecca Chopey of the Sacramento Kings said, “[The fair was] outstanding. One of the best we’ve ever been to.” Returning employers like Brandon Hamonn from the City of Santa Rosa Recreation said, “This is my fourth year here and [this Career Fair] was the best.”
There was rarely a quiet moment during the four hour event. Students trickled into the event, mingling with hundreds of company recruiters and representatives. Students networked with everyone from the FBI and Bear Republic Brewing Company to the National Park Service and Biosearch Technologies. The event had 614 current students in attendance. The months spent recruiting and marketing the event were clearly well spent. It is the department’s hope that the event will only grow in the years to come with more students taking advantage of the opportunity to network with potential employers.
