Safe Trick or Treat

Every year the Residential Halls, Student Involvement and the Village Councils host a Halloween event for local elementary school kids! The event includes a Kiddie haunted house, haunted photos, craft and activity tables sponsored by the Village Councils and other SSU clubs, as well as a bouncy house/slide and Chuggy the Bouncy train!  The residents of Sauvignon also have volunteered to purchase and hand out candy to the kids that are old enough to walk around the buildings. Sauvignon Village has a great set-up for this event! Last year we had about 40 rooms hand out candy and the kids LOVE it.  If you want to be a part of the event, and you live outside of Sauvignon, email mo.phillips@sonoma.edu and we will get you involved. If you live in Sauvignon, and want to hand out candy to the kids, please ask your RA how you can do that. It's a great time and every year we have about 300 kids take part! It's a lot of fun!!!!  Hope to see you out there or see you handing out candy to our little goblins and ghouls:)

Save A Seawolf: Narcan Training

  • Erin Fisher Room 2nd Floor Student Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Be prepared, Narcan can save lives!    We know that fentanyl and other opioids are taking the lives college students and many others in our communities  at a fast pace. In sonoma county alone, we have seen a huge rise in the numbers of overdoses and much of it is due to people not realizing what they are taking. This training will  last about 30 minutes, but you could be saving the lifetime of a Seawolf. At the end of the training you will also get some Narcan to have on hand just in case it’s needed.

Space is limited today so please sign up to attend by CLICKING HERE.  (you can always drop by to see if there is space at the EFR). Contact morrisonch@sonoma.edu if you have any questions or if you cannot make these times but want to be trained!

Save A Seawolf: Alcohol, Fentanyl, Marijuana, and Other Drugs Awareness Fair

Alcohol, Fentanyl, Marijuana…the list of substances that are fairly easily available to our Seawolves and the surrounding community goes on.  We might  think these substances can help us to cope with our anxieties, to navigate challenging situations, and “connect” with others. We also have a lot of preconceived notions about how these drugs and substances interact with other aspects of our life, like academics social situation, driving, athletic/physical performance and more.

This fair will focus on campus and community entities that are can help support our Seawolves on and off campus who might be struggling through their own challenges, challenges with family members, or suitemates/roommates’s substance use, abuse, or misuse. At this event there will be giveaways for those who participate, reminders about upcoming sober events, and tons of resources and information. So come by and learn ways to keep yourself safe and how to safely look out for others. Save a Seawolf today! For more information, contact mo.phillips@sonoma.edu.

Save A Seawolf Alcohol Awareness Week

Save A Seawolf Alcohol Awareness Week

  • Sonoma State University (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Save A Seawolf Alcohol Awareness Week brings awareness and responsibility where alcohol consumption is concerned. Our observance always takes place the week prior to Halloween, as we know that is a high risk time when it comes to college aged students and alcohol use/abuse/misuse.

According to a 2017 National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism survey, more than half (53.6%) of full-time college students drink alcohol in the past month. In the same period, 34.8 percent of full-time students participated in binge drinking.

This campaign offers programs and speakers talking about Alcohol and performance in athletics, distracted and drunk driving, alcohol and sexual assault, bystander intervention and having each other’s backs. We also will be having an important conversation about the recently changed Rohnert Park policies that will affect our Seawolves who live off campus. Campuses across the country are all hosting events like this at this time of year to educate, empower and provide other options to going out and drinking. Join us for one or more of our events. You never know when you will be the one trying to Save A Seawolf! For more information, contact mo.phillips@sonoma.edu
