9 College Dorm Must-Haves

When I was living in the dorms, I could NOT live without these 9 things specifically. Here are some items that you might not have thought about to add to your college dorm move-in check list.

1. A Coffee Maker

This is so essential. For coffee, tea, or even oatmeal for breakfast - a coffee maker is a money AND time saver. Sometimes when you're in a rush, waiting to get coffee or tea somewhere is out of the question because you really don't know how long it's going to take. My go-to coffee maker is the Keurig K55, which you can get at Target (or wait for a discount on Black Friday!). I stopped by Costco to grab a 80-count box of K-cups at a huge discount, and this will last me a while.

2. A Weekender Bag

This is something you may not think of. In college, chances are you're going to do fun and spontaneous things with your roommates/friends. Make sure to have a weekender bag in your dorm so you're prepared for any spontaneous weekend trip!

3. A Fuzzy Blanket

This is essential for the winter time especially. The dorms can definitely get freezing during the colder months. Noting is more comfortable than cozying up in a fuzzy blanket during these times!

4. Over-The-Door Mirror

These are great because they take up minimal space and are full length so you can check out your entire outfit. Some have extra storage inside for jewelry and other small items. You can easily get a plastic one for $10 at Walmart.

5. Moveable Storage

Most dorms are pretty small, meaning space for storage is super limited and you have to move big stuff around to exercise/work/live. You can get awesome deals at IKEA and Walmart for these kinds of items. I still have my moveable drawers for extra clothes space from my freshman year!

6. Dishwashing Wand

In some cases, it's impossible to avoid washing dishes, so you will need some sort of supplies. Even if you have a meal plan, think about your mugs and silver ware - you will definitely need something to wash these with. You can get the wands at the dollar store or Target. I would also suggest keeping a regular sponge as well to clean counters and other things in the kitchen if you have one.

7. Disinfecting Wipes

This is so important! I get cheap ones at the dollar store and they work just fine for me. This is perfect for wiping off your counters and desk frequently. So much dust can build up! Also use this in the bathrooms and if you have a kitchen. This is also quicker and easier than using paper towels and a spray.

8. Reusable Bags

This is something that you may not think about, but they come in handy all the time. From moving things between your house and dorm to picking up groceries.

9. Anything that reminds you of home!

Bring anything that gives you a little piece of home. Whether it's a special blanket or just pictures, this will make you fall in love with your dorm! Bring your favorite tapestry from home or any other fun decor you enjoy.
